Young drivers to test for BMW Sauber

Although they revealed this week they are to withdraw from Formula One racing at the end of the season, BMW Sauber have announced they will test two young drivers before the end of the year. Ex-Formula BMW participants Alexander Rossi and Esteban Gutierrez will be granted their first taste of an F1 car in December.
"Despite having announced our exit from Formula One, we will honour our commitments to young drivers in Formula BMW," explained BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen. "Thus we are looking forward to granting another two Formula BMW graduates the opportunity of gathering experience in a Formula One car." More...
Heidfeld: BMW's decision was 'totally unexpected'

Nick Heidfeld has expressed his surprise at BMW's decision to withdraw from Formula One racing at the end of the season. Heidfeld has driven for the BMW Sauber team since its first year as a works entry in 2006.
"BMW's decision to no longer compete in Formula One was totally unexpected," the 32 year-old told his official website. "I feel very sorry for the members of the team with whom it has been my privilege to work with over the years. I would like to thank all of them for their tremendous support and for everything we have achieved together." More...

Nick Heidfeld has admitted that he was astounded to learn of BMW's departure from Formula One on Wednesday. During a press conference put together at last minute, the German manufacturer announced that it will no longer be in F1 after 2009, much to the amazement of its home-grown driver. More...
